The History of Body & Brain Holistic Fitness

The roots of Dahn practice (known as Body & Brain Holistic Fitness or HSP yoga in Europe) extend several thousand years back into Korean history. It began as a training program to educate the population on how to develop both mind and body, and was practiced and transmitted by wise men to each generation. But over the centuries the tradition died out. Below you can read a timeline of the history of its re-emergence under the guidance of Dr. Ilchi Lee.
 

2009

First European Tour - July 2009 - includes a lecture in London on 25th
Ilchi Lee lectures in Geneva in a side event to the UN high segment of ECOSOC conference of NGOs on Public Health
Chunhwa Meditation Suhaeng in France
Lecture in Duesseldorf, Germany
Lecture in Samara, Russia
Lecture at the Institute of Education, London University, London, UK

The newly published Brain Wave Vibration Book wins 2 US book awards.

2008

The 4th Annual International Brain Education Conference in New York:
At the conference in June, co-sponsored by sections of the United Nations, focus was placed on how to incorporate Brain Education’s understanding of the brain into meaningful educational reform. Over 400 educators and parents from the United States, South Korea, Japan, England, Germany, Israel and Canada also attended.

The Earth Day Special:
April 22nd was a day dedicated to promoting the idea that we can create peace by choice through the principles of Brain Education

Young Earth-Human Alliance for Peace:
The Alliance went to South Korea and gave lectures at colleges to both students and professors, to spread Brain Education principles through huge events and camps.
 

2007

The ‘Light of Tao’ tour:
A 13-city tour in America for members focusing on a form of energy training formally called the ‘Light of Tao.' This training helped members become conscious of the infinite nature of their souls and how to change their bodies.

Jangsaeng Walking Introduced:
This walking method, both powerful and easy to learn, involves a special approach to healthy living. Since its introduction, Jangsaeng Walking has been shared widely through the media, seminars and centres.

Brain Education spreads:
After beginning with just one school in Detroit, by the end of 2007 Brain Education had been adopted by 192 schools in 18 regions. Training was also conducted for the Disney Publishing Company and the World Health Organization.

People with MS benefit:
A centre in Phoenix Arizona began special training to help relieve the symptoms of MS and restore the lives of sufferers to normality. The program has inspired a video production sharing the practice with the worldwide MS community.

2006

The first Russian Dahn Centre opens in Samara.

2005

Dahn yoga participates as the official provider of yoga classes in several of the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer events.

2004

With more than 300 trained instructors, ‘Brain Respiration’ (a forerunner to Brain Education), is adopted in after-school programs in Chicago, Illinois, and Atlanta, Georgia. The state of Arizona proclaims the week of July 29th International Brain Respiration Week.

2002

The first centre in England opens just outside of London.
 

2001

The first of the Healing Chakra tours begins. This tour would extend through the next three years around the world. By the end of the three-year tour, close to 15,000 people have participated in these workshops.
 

1998

Construction on the CGI Holistic Centre begins in Closter, New Jersey. Presenting a model for comprehensive health, CGI combines the latest gym equipment with Dahn classes, healing sessions, massage therapy, a spa, and an indoor pool in a luxurious 30,000 sq. ft. facility.

1997

The Sedona Ilchi Meditation Centre is established on a 160-acre retreat facility in Sedona surrounded by national forest.

1996

The first Japanese centre is opened in Osaka, and the first Canadian centre is opened in Toronto.
 

1991

A small energy healing centre in Seoul is opened, giving energy evaluations and treatment plans based on Dahn yoga and energy healing.
 

1987

As Dahn yoga increases in popularity, large corporations, including Gold Star (now known as LG), SK and Daewoo ask to teach Dahn yoga to employees. Dahn yoga is also introduced to athletes-in-training and troops in the Korean military. As more yoga centres open, Ilchi Lee leaves the management of these centres to instructors, allowing him to focus on developing further training programmes.
 

1985

The first Dahn yoga centre opens in Seoul, and the first edition of Ilchi Lee’s book ‘Dahnhak: Its Principles and Training Method’ is published.
 

1980

Ilchi Lee began teaching Dahn yoga at a public park. One by one people joined him for daily exercise.
